Mehmet Şahin ÇAKAN, who has been serving in many areas of the fisheries sector since 1989, established his own transportation company in 2005. Thus, he started to transport the fish supplied by the fishing vessels by the cold chain through his own fleet. In 2007, he established Mehmet Şahin Çakan Balıkçılık Ltd. Co. with only one fishing vessel and continues his activities with a fishing fleet of more than 100 boats.
Mehmet Şahin Çakan, who established the Cold Storage Facility and Fish Processing Factory in 2012, expanded and modernized the Fish Processing Factory in 2016 and started exporting to many countries including Greece, Italy, People’s Republic of China, Belgium, France, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, respectively. He aims to increase his share in the European seafood market by collaborating with the Fishmate Company operating in Belgium since 2023.
While continuing his commercial activities, Çakan also plays an active role in economic and social responsibility organizations that contribute to the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. Mehmet Şahin ÇAKAN, who was elected as the President of the İzmir Fisherman Businessmen Association in 2010, was elected as a member of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce Council in 2013 and to the Board Member of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce in 2018. He has been the Chairman of the Izmir Fisheries Working Group since 2018 and the Chairman of the Agriculture Commission of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce since 2022. He has been a Member of the Izmir University of Economics Foundation Board of Trustees since 2020, and a Member of the Aegean Exporters’ Association Animal Products Board of Directors since 2022. He has been serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dikili Agriculture-Based Specialized Greenhouse (Geothermal Sourced) Organized Industrial Zone for a year.
Aiming to serve wider geographies with its natural and quality products by increasing product diversity in the fishing industry, Mehmet Şahin ÇAKAN, within the Şahin Group, continues to provide integrated services with fisheries, logistics, wholesale, cold storage, processing and especially export-oriented distribution and marketing activities.
